James Blake Picks Donnay

NEW YORK, August 26, 2011 - James Blake announced today that his lengthy search for “just the right racquet” is over. The popular American has become a Donnay Dual-Core racquet believer and an ambassador for the storied 101-year-old brand.

Blake has been using a customized version of Donnay’s X-Dual Pro model since June on the ATP Tour Pro. The regular X-Dual Pro model is hitting retail stores this month.

“In the last few years, I’ve been looking to find a racquet that combines the control and power I need to succeed at the highest level of the game,” said Blake. “The Donnay combines the power and control I need to give me maximum confidence on the court.”

Blake began experimenting with various Donnay Dual Core racquets last winter and started using one in competition last June. He has since moved up 104 points in the ATP rankings, recording impressive wins this month against David Nalbandian, the defending champion at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic; and avenged a loss to Marcos Baghdatis at the Western Southern Open who defeated Blake earlier at Wimbledon in a five-set thriller.

Blake has persevered in spite of a pair of serious injuries in 2004 – a fractured vertebrae in his neck and a bout with zoster, a debilitating condition that affected his hearing and vision and paralyzed one side of his face. Since then he has won seven titles, reached the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open in 2005, and the next year achieved his career-high No. 4 ranking while helping lead the United States to its first Davis Cup championship in 12 years.

But he was plagued with a bum right knee last year and developed a sore right shoulder earlier this year before his switch to Donnay. That’s all behind him now, he said, adding, “I am competing pain-free since switching to Donnay.”

“We greatly admire James as much for his courage as his lightning speed and powerful forehand,” said Bobby Choe, CEO of Donnay USA. To underscore that point, Bobby Choe noted that Blake was honored during last year’s U.S. Open opening ceremonies along with Martina Navratilova and others who “dream, succeed and inspire.”

“And James’ thoughtful and soft-spoken charisma has made him one of a handful of players known to those who don’t even follow tennis,” Bobby Choe added.

“We worked very closely with James to develop the right racquet for him,” added Jerry Choe, Donnay USA president and chief designer. “Dual-Core is the solution in finding the delicate balance between power, control and touch and feel.”

All of Donnay’s current Dual-Core racquets -- the X-Dual and X-P series -- have multiple infusions of high-tensile strength XēneCore™ tubing injected throughout the entire frame including the head that results in less energy loss and more shock absorption on ball contact than conventional frames.
