Andreev 'Shoulders' Part of the Blame for Russia's Davis Cup Loss
NEW YORK, October 5, 2012 — A
shoulder injury that forced Igor
Andreev to retire from his opening round
Davis Cup match against Brazil was a
major factor in Russia’s loss to the
underdog Brazilians and Russia’s
elimination for the first time in Davis
Cup’s top tier.
Andreev retired with the shoulder injury
while he was down 6-2, 6-1 against
Brazil’s Rogerio Dutra Silva, who is
ranked 19 places below the Russian.
Andreev’s shoulder also caused him to
withdraw from the first round of the St.
Petersburg Open earlier in the week.
